Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, ερωτηθείς για την Κ. Γκίλφοϊλ τόνισε πως δεν υπήρξε μέλος της οικογένειάς του και ότι δεν του άρεσαν όσα διάβασε σχετικά με τις καταγγελίες εναντίον της, οι οποίες οδήγησαν τον Λευκό Οίκο να ζητήσει την παραίτησή της από τη θέση της πρέσβεων των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών στην Ελλάδα.
Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος επιβεβαίωσε ότι δεν είχε επικοινωνήσει προσωπικά με την Γκίλφοϊλ για την υπόθεση, ενώ ξεκαθάρισε ότι δεν πρόκειται να παραμείνει στη θέση της. Οι δηλώσεις του έρχονται μετά την ανακοίνωση του Λευκού Οίκου ότι ζητήθηκε από την Αμερικανίδα πρέσβη να υποβάλει την παραίτησή της.
Ερωτηθείς από δημοσιογράφο πόσο τον εξέπληξαν οι καταγγελίες, δεδομένου ότι η Γκίλφοϊλ υπήρξε σχεδόν μέλος της οικογένειάς του, ο Τραμπ ανέφερε:
«Όχι, δεν ήταν μέλος της οικογένειάς μου. Νομίζω ότι έβγαινε με τον γιο μου πριν από πολύ καιρό, αλλά δεν ήταν μέλος της οικογένειας», απάντησε.
Στη συνέχεια αναφέρθηκε στη θητεία της στην Αθήνα, σημειώνοντας ότι «πήγε στην Ελλάδα και έκανε καλή δουλειά, αλλά δεν μας άρεσαν όσα διαβάζαμε».
Όταν ρωτήθηκε τι σκέφτηκε για τις καταγγελίες και αν είχε μιλήσει μαζί της, ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος απάντησε: «Δεν μίλησα μαζί της, όχι. Αλλά δεν θα παραμείνει εκεί. Δεν μου άρεσαν όσα διάβασα».

Νωρίτερα, ο Λευκός Οίκος είχε ζητήσει την παραίτησή της από τη θέση της πρέσβειρας των ΗΠΑ στην Ελλάδα, μετά από δημοσιεύματα της Wall Street Journal.
Από την πλευρά της, η Γκιλφόιλ εξέφρασε την ευγνωμοσύνη της στον Τραμπ για την ευκαιρία να υπηρετήσει στην Ελλάδα, απορρίπτοντας τις κατηγορίες σε βάρος της και δηλώνοντας ότι θα υπερασπιστεί το όνομα και τη φήμη της.
